The client needed a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform where patients with implantable medical devices could manage device data, receive recall alerts, and access educational content. As the platform grew, a new need surfaced — patients weren’t just looking for alerts, they wanted to understand what those alerts meant for their specific device, in plain language, without having to navigate complex medical documentation.

Solution

Innovative Labs built The Implant Intel — a custom Web and Mobile application hosted on AWS, built around full HIPAA compliance. The platform includes encrypted infrastructure, role-based authentication via Auth0, real-time FDA recall alerts, and a personalized patient dashboard, all designed to WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.

The latest addition is an AI-powered recall assistant — a self-hosted chat tool that lets patients ask questions like “Has my device ever been recalled?” and get clear, straightforward answers based on verified FDA data. Every response is filtered to avoid medical advice and fully logged for compliance.

It’s a practical tool that meets patients where they are, without overstepping.

Patients now have a single place to monitor their device, understand recalls, and get answers — without needing to dig through government databases or wait on hold. The AI assistant made critical information more accessible while keeping the platform fully compliant and secure.
